What are AEU's

AEU's are Australia Emission Units, they are a form of carbon credit to be created under the federal government ETS legislation, they are personal property and will be subject to financial products regulation under the Corporations Act. they can be purchased and sold like other types of carbon credits. They are one of the the mechanisms by which the federal government seeks to achieve its emissions targets (-5%-25%) . The major emittors will be required under the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme Bill to surrender permits of AEU's at year end equivalent to their Scope 1 emissions.
